Birth Center Transfer for Cesarean – Story in Photos

This birth story is a on the more unique side since it shows a birth that begins in a birth center and the couple tranfers to the hospital for a cesarean.

You may have wondered what that experience would be like! People planning a birth at a birth center or at home are often concerned or scared about the possibility of needing to transfer to the hospital. While that happens in a variety of ways, you’ll see that in this story it was a calm process.

Perhaps you’re curious about hiring a birth photographer to be with you at a birth center and want to know what would happen with your photos if you were to transfer. In most cases your photographer will go with you, which is what I did here!

A few notes before we begin:

• This couple worked a long, long time with their midwives before transferring for a cesarean. The mother worked incredibly hard to push her baby out, but her baby was staying in one place. The decision to transfer was made as a team with plenty of time to think about it.
• This family gave permission for their photos to be shared, but not all of them. So this is not the 100% full complete gallery that they received personally. (My clients know they can trust me with their images!)
• The full galleries that my clients receive include about three times as many photos as you see here. So enjoy these and just think of the potential for what more you might expect in your own!
• This family birthed in a lovely birth center with the midwives at Joyful Beginnings Birth Care in New Braunfels, TX. Love ’em.
• They transferred to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, TX.
• These parents felt very satisfied with their birth!

At this point I was not allowed into the OR, so I waited during that time. The parents sent me some sweet photos from their phones. 🥰 I edited those to to go well with the rest of their photos, but I am not including them here since I did not take those photos. The next photos are in the recovery room.
